We recently celebrated Mother Cabrini’s 168th birthday. This is a yearly opportunity for members of the Cabrini community to reflect upon the life of our foundress and marvel in God’s great work in missions which continue today. This year we at Cabrini Mission Foundation thought about Mother Cabrini’s words, “All our life must be an act of thanksgiving, because we are constantly receiving infinite benefits from God.”
We are so blessed in the Guadalupe province to have such diverse missions and to see the blessings which flow from these good works. Every day Sisters and lay associates experience God’s love in all things.
Our province encompasses the Australia, home of a large hospital which has recently made steps to provide healthcare to migrants and refugees, Guatemala, where two medical dispensaries care for members of impoverished communities with a variety of wrap around services, Mexico, home of the Center for Migrants and the Poor, which provides food and spiritual counseling for thousands of migrants every year, Nicaragua, where two school communities provide a world class Catholic education, and the United States where immigrant services centers give assistance for people navigating the complicated process of becoming a citizen. Naturally, this list doesn’t include all Cabrini missions in our province or comes close to expressing all the love and care which flows through our many missions.
The day was remembered in every mission in the Guadalupe province. Some, like the shrines in Colorado and New York, held big celebrations where people joined together. Others celebrated quietly with prayers for hope and the future.
Remembering Mother Cabrini’s appeal for thanksgiving, we want to express our deepest gratitude for everyone who has supported our missions in any way. Every act, both great and small, means the legacy of Mother Cabrini, alive in her missions today continues. The Spirit of Mother Cabrini is alive…in you.
Happy Birthday, Mother Cabrini. Thank you so much.
