Catholic Sisters Week and International Women’s Day – What Can We Learn from Religious Women?

March 7, 2023

With the start of Catholic Sisters Week and International Women’s Day on March 8th, this is a time of commemorating extraordinary religious women and the many ways they have enriched our lives. Whether it’s Sisters, Saints or our fellow practicing Catholics, women of faith never fail to leave us feeling inspired.

At Cabrini Mission Foundation, we have learned life lessons from the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that teach us to put others before ourselves and hold to our hearts the stories of their missionary work which inspire us to never give up. By doing so, we are nurturing our own souls in the process and aligning with the plan Jesus had for us. Our foundress, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, taught us the importance of dignity, development, and the empowerment of all people that starts within our own communities.

We hope, with our ministry, we embody the resilience of these incredible women, and make meaningful changes that emulate Mother Cabrini’s spirit and commitment to helping the most vulnerable.

The Feast Day of Mother Cabrini – How Can We Incorporate Mother Cabrini’s Charism into Our Own Lives?

November 7, 2022

As Mother Cabrini’s feast day, celebrated on November 13th of each year, quickly approaches, it poses the question: How can we celebrate Mother Cabrini, and actualize her teachings in our everyday lives? As the patron saint of immigrants, Mother Cabrini inspires us to open our hearts to everyone, especially those who are on the margins of society. Taking these teaching and applying them to our own lives doesn’t always mean being on the front lines helping immigrants as they arrive to the United States, but it is finding other ways to help that are just as, if not more, significant.

Donating to charities who work closely with immigrants, including the Cabrini Mission Foundation, is a great way to ensure you are providing much-needed assistance to the individuals working directly with immigrants, but monetary contributions aren’t the only way to give back. You can make a difference by:

  • Sharing a friendly face
  • Engaging in meaningful conversation
  • Inviting our new neighbors into our communities

These are all significant ways to help families who may be experiencing a hard time adjusting to their new home.

We, as laity of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, hope to continue in this spirit, and act on the principles Mother Cabrini instilled in our Sisters and our identities.

Do You Want to Fast this Lent?

March 1, 2021

In the words of Pope Francis…

Fast from hurting words and say kind words.

Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.

Fast from anger and be filled with patience.

Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.

Fast from worries and have trust in God.

Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.

Fast from pressures and be prayerful.

Fast from bitterness and fill your hearts with joy.

Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others.

Fast from grudges and be reconciled.

Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.
