This Lent we are asking our Cabrini friends and supporters to donate towards scholarships to Technical Institute La Inmaculada. Here are 10 reasons we love this school and think you will, too!
- Technical Institute La Inmaculada (TILA) is run by Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, operating in Mother Cabrini’s spirit of “education of the heart”
- TILA teaches approximately 1,250 students per year
- TILA is the only school of its kind in the area, offering Pre-K through Secondary education with academic and vocational tracks
- TILA was founded in 1974 in response to the need for vocational and skills-based education
- The school is located in Pochocuape, a community located on the outskirts of Managua
- Without TILA approximately 50% of children would cease education after completing the primary level
- Many children attending the school are growing up in homes with a single parent or grandparent as the primary caregiver.
- TILA employs 33 teachers
- TILA partners with established organizations such as the Red Cross to offer special workshops
- The mission of the school is to create a fraternal environment where students can receive the social support and structure they cannot receive anywhere else
