La Inmaculada Well Update!

November 9, 2017

Today we were pleased to receive an update from Sisters in Nicaragua regarding the La Inmaculada Well Project. This project has been a journey for all of us, as it is the first major grant collaboration we have done as the new administrative entity. For those of you who have donated, thank you so much. Your support and generosity has been so instrumental over the last year.

La Inmaculada student drinking from well.In fall 2016 it came to our attention at the Stella Maris Province Office in New York that one of our schools in Nicaragua was in need. Nicaragua is one of the three countries with which the Stella Maris Province is becoming a new administrative entity. Suffice to say, we were distraught to hear the school was forced to close due to a lack of water in the dry season. The Cabrini Mission Foundation launched a fundraising campaign in December of that year, with the aim to raise the approximately $55,000 needed for the project.

Our Sisters in Central America got to work hiring an engineer and preparing to build a new well in the belief the funds would become available to cover the costs. A feasibility study was completed early in 2017. Today’s update informed us that they have received the required permissions to sign the contract and begin construction. We now know the cost will be approximately $58,000. The start date of the construction has not yet been set, but hopefully we will know real soon and be able to share that news with all of you.

As of the writing of this blog post we have raised or received pledges totaling approximately $24,000. We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has donated so far. If you are able to give, please do so. This well is vital to our school being able to remain open and serve students in Nicaragua.

Thank you all, again, and may God and Mother Cabrini bless you and your families always.
