Cabrini Profiles – Eugene McCormick

Eugene McCormick

With more than 35 years of diversified experience in the ocean transport industry, especially from a strategic and consulting perspective, Gene McCormick has been instrumental as President of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy’s Alumni Foundation in the establishment of proven, responsible fund development from strategic planning and developing guidelines to managing the support staff to effect such plans. As a result, nearly 16,000 alumni participate in the Academy’s alumni programs and donate generously to the Foundation. During his years as partner of McCormick Jahncke Group in New Orleans, Mr. McCormick was involved as a member of the Board of Trustees for Cabrini High School. It was through this connection that Mr. McCormick eventually became a member of the Board for the Cabrini Mission Foundation.

Q. How and when did you become involved with the Board of Trustees at Cabrini Mission Foundation?
I guess you could say that I have been there from the very beginning, as one of the original members of a formalized Board for this newly-formed Foundation. I was asked to contribute my skills as a designate from New Orleans.

Q. What has been your most fulfilling moment in working with the Foundation?
The work of Sr. Pietrina and Cabrini Immigrant Services, especially in the way it has expanded, has always impressed me. When I became a Board member, Sr. Pietrina Raccuglia, MSC, was Provincial of the Stella Maris Province. To see the progress that has been made in terms of providing services to immigrants has been remarkable. It almost harkens back to 100 years ago, to the work of Mother Cabrini. I have not been to Swaziland but our growth to include that mission is also remarkable.

Q. What do you hope to see in the future for the Foundation?
I would like the Foundation to grow and expand its fundraising efforts. I hope to see more Board involvement in the fundraising effort, and for the Foundation to develop a more structured plan for annual fundraising.
