Phage Hunters – A Summer and College Preparation Workshop for High School Students from Mother Cabrini High School in New York

Project Goal:
A week-long residential, hands-on science program that utilizes cutting- edge technology and analysis originally developed by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The Phage Hunter Summer Science Program will encourage young women to consider careers in science and provide a pre-college immersion experience to help promote college preparation and planning for these students.

Parent Education Support Program

Project Goal:
The project will create a team of immigrant parents to identify and implement key strategies for success in supporting their children’s educational progress, navigating the school system structure, addressing challenges and problems, and dealing with children at risk. A basic handbook translated into a number of languages will be created and a peer mentor/support program will be implemented to ensure sustainability.

Project Goal:
This project is to further enhance independent financial development efforts, and to build the capacity of the organization to meet the expanding demands of donors for monitoring, evaluation and reporting. This project will also help further integrate local staff into the Cabrini mission.

Collaboration in Mission 2011-2012: Cabrini Retreat Center and Cabrini Mission Corps

Project Goal:
Collaboration in Mission combines the strengths and resources of Cabrini Retreat Center with those of Cabrini Mission Corps to respond to the growing, unmet need for welcoming, peaceful retreat spaces for immigrants, teens and low-income populations in the Chicago area and beyond. With the joint support of the Cabrini Retreat Center and Cabrini Mission Corps staff, two Cabrini missioners will serve full-time for 10 months at Cabrini Retreat Center, allowing the Center to strengthen their ability to respond to this growing need.

Health First: Community Health Fair and Career Day

Project Goal:
Health First is the umbrella name for a variety of projects that will rebuild our science and health programs and will enable students to engaging better self, environmental and community care. The two components for which we seek funding from the Foundation are the Community Health Fair (CHF) and Health Career Day (HCD). The CHF invites middle school teachers to bring students to join ours for a day of classes and activities focusing on healthy living. The HCD is a follow-up to the CHF, restricted to Mother Cabrini High School students, that brings health care professionals to campus to discuss their careers with students.
