Third Annual Cabrini Open Shines in Long Island

With a near-record number of golfers, and a record number of sponsors the Third Annual Cabrini Open raised over $72,000 on Thursday, September 22, at North Hempstead Country Club in Long Island.
Despite an all-day threat of thunderstorms, the skies remained rain free as nearly 120 guests attended the evening’s festivities which included a cocktail reception, dinner, auction, raffles and awards.
The evening also featured remarks by the Provincial of the Stella Maris Province of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sr. Pietrina Raccuglia, MSC, and honorary chairman, legendary college basketball coach Gene Keady.
Coach Keady returned for the second consecutive year and was an instant hit with his stories, recollections and insights into college athletics.
Our special guests included Sisters Diane Olmstead, MSC, Archangel Turco, MSC, Catherine Garry, MSC, Arlene Van Dusen, MSC and Barbara Staley, MSC, who just returned from Swaziland and delighted everyone with her presence. Other notables included former NBA and college basketball stars Tyrone Grant, Francisco de Miranda and Frantz Pierre-Louis, as well as New Jersey Nets vice president Leo Ehrline and ESPN vice president Bill Schreitmueller.

Sr. Archangel Turco, MSC, defeated many of the golfers in the NET Putting Challenge as her 25-foot putt was a mere 24 inches from the cup.
“In three short years the Cabrini Open has raised over $200,000 for Cabrini programs across the Stella Maris Province,” said CMF President & CEO Nick Vendikos, who also served as Master of Ceremonies that evening. “Personally, I am truly indebted to our co-chairs, Patrick Dunleavy and E. Craig Suhrbier, and our committee and Board for their fundraising push in a very difficult economy,” he said.
